SlotsWise interviews Norbert Mathies

SlotsWise recently interviewed our Managing Director, Norbert Mathies. The executive explained the development of the company and its latest releases, including the Xtreme! product line and the portfolio diversification with new games categories.

Could you introduce yourself and Spinmatic to our readers?

I’ve been working in the gaming industry for more than 10 years. The idea for Spinmatic was born while creating tailor-made games for big operators, with new frameworks, changing from flash to HTML5… The games were some of the best performing in the clients’ portfolios so we recognised we had everything to be a successful and unique slots studio. Nowadays, Spinmatic is one of the fastest growing companies in the industry, constantly attracting new operators.

You’ve been present on the market since 2017 and have released over 70 titles so far. What would you say you’ve learned since your first release?

We’re deeply rooted in the business because of all the work we did before starting Spinmatic. We’ve learned so much. In the beginning we gained knowledge about creating games, processes and teamwork. In the past few years we’ve started implementing psychological knowledge to create titles based on player types: games with high volatility to attract players who want to win big and the Xtreme! line for players to feel they are always winning.

At the SlotsWise Gaming Awards 2021, you’ve won the One to Watch 2022 Award for the Meteoroid slot. We’re aware that Meteoroid is your first Crash game. So, could you tell us more details about this innovative game?

Meteoroid is the company’s first Crash game, continuing to grow our casino games portfolio. It offers players more chances to win, with astronomical prizes up to x1000. Players can decide how much to bet and when to cash out. Their goal is to get their hands on the cash before the crash. It’s a provably fair game, meaning there’s no possibility for the operator or us to have an influence on the game’s outcome.

Your “Xtreme!” titles come with impressive Return To Player rates, like the Fruity Beats Xtreme! slot that has an RTP of 99.08%. What’s the process involved in making such games?

Our Xtreme! line has the highest RTP in slot history at over 99%. We saw that the higher the RTP, the more people the game attracted, so we created this specific game line for players who are playing mainly for fun. Using themes and games that are already in our portfolio, we transferred them to the Xtreme! line, with new mathematics - reel sets, pay tables…- and mechanics.

What’s unique about your games, why should we play your games?

The dedication, love and knowledge behind them. Our mathematicians are not only people with masters degrees; they have a love for the games. We are also unique in terms of artwork. In fact, almost half our team is made up of artists: animators, illustrators... All the storylines and concepts we’re creating are not just copied; we create every game on our own, making them unique, fun, and designed for players’ wishes and needs.

What is your favourite Spinmatic game and why?

That’s a tricky question. It’s like picking your favourite child! Deep inside you might have one but you don’t want to annoy the other ones. We have such incredible titles. For me, the Ed Jones titles are really outstanding and they have great commercial success. In 2021, I need to highlight the Xtreme! line, and especially Fruity Beats Xtreme!

Are there any particular competitors or slot releases you’ve been impressed by in the past year?

To name a single one would be quite unfair, as there were numerous awesome titles released in 2021. But we, as Spinmatic, are confident in the strength of our games. In fact, in terms of slot releases I'd pick Fruity Beats Xtreme! as the best of 2021.

What can we expect from your upcoming games? Could you share some exclusive details with us?

As Spinmatic we’re always up to date. We’re now creating our third Crash game, Bank Run, which will be more than unique in the market; a provably fair game with completely new mechanics.
